Can You Have Dental Implants In A Day?

by Andrew Mueller, DMD, MD | Mar 1, 2024

In recent decades, dental implants have become the gold standard for tooth replacement and restoration. While most people are familiar with the traditional dental implant process, which typically takes anywhere from 5-10 months to complete, they may not be aware that same-day dental implants also exist.

When first hearing about same-day dental implants, many patients are skeptical. Is this a legitimate, doctor-supported tooth replacement option or simply a shortcut that’s actually too good to be true?

As board-certified Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons and restorative doctors who have been performing same-day dental implant procedures every day for years, our team at Doctors Implants can unequivocally confirm that our process is valid, and 100% doctor-recommended. Thousands of patient success stories attest to the life-changing capacity of our revolutionary 6 Hour Smile, a groundbreaking procedure that has been refined many times over by our world-class doctors.

Below, we’ve provided an overview of dental implants and explored the 6 Hour Smile in more detail. After reading this article, we encourage you to book your free doctor’s consultation with our Doctors Implants team to start your dental implant journey today!

What Are Dental Implants?

Dental implants are a permanent tooth replacement solution that closely mimic the structure and function of natural teeth.

The implant itself is a titanium post that is placed into and fuses with the jawbone.   It provides an anchor and also stimulates healthy bone growth. A small connector, known as an abutment, attaches the implant post to a prosthetic tooth above the gumline.

Once healed, dental implants look, feel, and function similar to natural teeth and allow for proper chewing, biting, smiling, and oral care.

Types of Dental Implants

Single Tooth Dental Implants

As you might expect, single tooth dental implants are meant to replace just one missing tooth at a time. They are an excellent solution for patients who need to have isolated teeth extracted and want to maintain their overall oral health and function. A crown is placed over a tooth dental implant and crafted to match the surrounding teeth as naturally as possible.

Full Arch Dental Implants

Full arch dental implants refer to implants that replace all top teeth (upper arch), all bottom teeth (lower arch), or both (full mouth dental implants). At Doctors Implants, full arch and full mouth dental implants are our full-time specialty, and we are privileged to witness the incredible impact they have on patients’ lives every single day.

Full arch or full mouth dental implants are ideal for patients who have multiple missing teeth or extensive dental issues that are impacting the majority of teeth in their mouth.  They can also be a perfect option for patients who already have traditional dentures but are dissatisfied with their comfort, function, or appearance.

During a full arch dental implant procedure, single implants are not placed for every tooth. Instead, just four to six implants are precisely placed to support a full arch of prosthetic teeth.

Same-Day Dental Implants – Is It Possible?

Can you successfully receive full mouth dental implants in just one day? The answer is a resounding yes.

Furthermore, you can leave the Doctors Implants’ office at the end of the day with a brand-new and beautiful smile that looks natural.

No months of waiting with gaps in your mouth. No series of appointments, bone grafts and procedures in preparation for implant placement.

Just one streamlined and state-of-the-art procedure that allows you to move forward with confidence.

What Is the Process?

Although the actual 6 Hour Smile is completed in just 6 hours, our leading team of doctors will need to meet with you prior to your all-in-one dental implant appointment as well as afterwards. That being said, traditional implants typically require many more procedures and months of healing. Here’s what patients can expect in terms of appointments:

  • Free Doctors Consultation and CT Scan – At this 90-minute appointment, you’ll meet your patient advocate, consult with your doctor, and undergo a CT scan. A personalized treatment plan will be developed based on your particular needs and circumstances.
  • 6 Hour Smile – At this all-day appointment, you can expect the following:
    • Any remaining teeth are removed, and the jawbone is prepped under anesthesia.
    • Implants are placed using computer-guided spatial technology.
    • Your newly designed healing teeth are crafted and installed.
  • Post-Surgery Appointment/Final Delivery- This appointment will take place about after surgery to make sure your mouth is healing properly and your new, final teeth are installed.
  • Maintenance Appointments – Your implants will require annual cleanings and check-ups, just like natural teeth.

Are There Risks Involved?

Receiving same-day implants is typically an extremely safe and effective process, particularly when carried out by our highly trained and experienced doctors. At Doctors Implants, our implant success rate is higher than 99%.

That being said, as with any surgical procedure, there is always the potential for risks. While these risks are rare, it’s important to be aware that they may occur. These may include:

  • Injury or damage to surrounding tissues or structures
  • Infection post-surgery
  • Nerve damage
  • Sinus issues

If you’ve been turned away by other doctors as a candidate for full mouth dental implants, our experienced and highly qualified team of surgeons can help. We regularly take on even the most complex of cases with success (and without the need for bone graft procedures) and encourage you to book a consultation with us if:

  • You have multiple missing teeth.
  • You have extensive and ongoing dental problems.
  • You have misaligned teeth.
  • You have a systemic disease or are taking a medication that is impacting your oral health.
  • You need implants but have dental anxiety.
  • You’re looking for an alternative to traditional dentures.
  • You’ve been told you have insufficient jawbone for implants.
